I admittedly flip through to the final pages of a magazine to check out my monthly horoscope (hey, why not?), though I don’t exactly seek the planets’ advice when it comes to making major life decisions. But, astrology’s influence on the latest home decor trends is undeniable – from adding a fun wall decal in your children’s’ bedroom or playroom to exceptional metal wall art pieces for Spring 2014 , and beyond. Not one to let a major trend pass by, so just in time for the Holiday 2013- sprucing up for your holiday guests is very easy and fun. Wall decals are the perfect easy, low cost decor that will really show your personality and fun side. Easy on and very easy to take off or move to a different room, they make the statement of your astrology-inspired home decor whether Christmas or any time of the year. You’ll be sure to get plenty of use out of one whether it be a beautiful flowering tree or the kids favorite animation. My friends think this is a small price to pay for something that makes there surroundings infinitely more glamorous.
Black Friday holiday shopping will start on Thursday this year and everyone forgets to be thankful. Kids love to participate in Thanksgiving celebrations, they enjoy decorating, creating Thanksgiving plaques, cards, and decorative plates. This is perhaps the best time to talk to your kids about family values and tradition. By observing you, they will learn the essential lessons of family traditions. But too often today we forget to instill into our kids the meaning.
If you want your kids to imbibe a strong value system, use Thanksgiving to teach them American values. You can also use quotes to adorn your Thanksgiving dinner table. Plan a ‘treasure hunt’ , kids enjoy games. You can scribble each quote on a piece of paper and hide it. When kids find the ‘treasure,’ you can reward them with a suitable treat.
Sometimes when you are really not ready, a loved one has to be moved into a residential nursing facility. Everyone is sad….but the work ahead can be daunting. My Aunt kept everything she ever owned (exaggerated I’m sure) but it feels and looks like that. I now know where and why I seem to loves wall plaques, and decorative wall plates with silly sayings! She owns them ALL. Some had religious quotes, some humorous, and some quirky! But she loves them all, so we packed them up, carefully putting them into my Mom’s attic, because we all know she will be coming home soon, just not to her house anymore.
The name doesn’t sound like much—the Corner Place. But, to my brothers and I, growing up in near Chicago, it still brings to mind our happiest childhood Christmas memories. In the corner was a large horizontal plywood surface, about eight feet square, that Dad would erect about two feet off the floor in the corner of our living room. Upon this surface, we’d lay a covering of white sheets, to simulate snow. At the center of this display, we’d position a real Christmas tree, about four feet high, adorned with ornaments and big colored Christmas lights—the kind that had real colors! At the base of this “giant” tree, we’d place our presents. Finishing touches included a sprinkling of glitter upon the “snow,” and trying to close the gap between the platform and the carpet. Surrounding our “snow” we added sparkles and glitter and all this reflected from my Mother’s collection of wall mirrors. She always loved to shop for decorations for the house, which is probably why she has the largest collection of mirrors, wall plates and plaques in history!!
I think retailers are pushing the glamorous mirrors and metal art that tinkle like stars way, way too early. And earlier each year, before the Thanksgiving turkey has time to cook! I can imagine how happy you parents are when school starts and BAM…they start advertising TOYS!!! And nothing seems to be reasonable in cost, every thing electronic, when kids should be out in the fresh air, like we were. I think we had it pretty good! We know how to communicate without an I-Phone glued to our hands. I still can’t text, I have the phone you can talk into…sad, I know. Hopefully everyone will stop a bit to give thanks at Thanksgiving….thanks for all the toys to come!
I always loved looking at the variety of greens that each tree has, and sometimes the shade is really hard to see, but each tree has it’s own green. Then autumn arrives and all the beautiful colors, red, orange, gold- the colors seem to explode, as if putting on a show for us. My friend has a large wall art metal piece and it’s just as colorful as nature. I think of her when ever I run across a group of trees, all changing colors. I guess I should see her more often, not just think of her in autumn! This is a perfect time of the year for a long, lazy drive and see the trees.
I have to admit that I am guilty of re-decorating a room or two– consistently. But I was an Air Force spouse and we traveled a lot. A LOT. Off-base, then on-base, then reassigned to same county, different station. And cycle started again, off-base, maybe again off-base and then on-base. I started a collection of metal art wall hanging that NO MOVER could break! But I really loved them. They brought brightness to a dreary English house, and cleverly placed mirrors somehow always made Japanese and European house just bigger and cheerful.
I don’t know if everyone had the week I had, but everyone in my house needed something, somehow…now! As usual, my niece waited to the very last minute to tell me she had a birthday party and a sleep-over. I was surprised when we went shopping (at the last second!) she wanted to buy her friend a pretty plaque that confirmed they would be friends forever! Usually it’s clothes for her, no matter what we are shopping for to I guess she is growing up….nay I think I am wishing too hard. But the friendship plaque was very pretty. Hope everyone is getting ready for Halloween!
Ready to breathe life into those plain old walls? I was, so I started here- the place to be. My friends and I found how much fun and successful we could be by discovering vinyl wall decals -we were able to transform my friends apartment into a tropical paradise (okay maybe not a paradise!) but it was fantastic and fun. Now when she moves, she is definitely taking her walls with her! No more returning all to white. That got us thinking any room can turn into a unique work of your own creation!
Designing your rooms for your family requires a lot of thought and creativity. To cut a long story short, vinyl decals can be the complete solution to your decorating woes! I have seen nurseries with adorable animal shapes and blocks and then teenagers’ rooms that are so creative and unique When my niece went off to university, she made her dorm her own, and all her friends wanted to do it too. Apartments dwellers now have the “take it with you” decor, teens can change their look with their mood. I’m sure you can think of many more ideas.
It’s called a “man cave” today, but my Dad had a basement full of signs of his favorite things. His pals all played cards, smoked and talked about “the good old days. I want to bring back all the memories and I have seen a fun selection of reproduction tin signs, too many to list.
To me, it’s every thing I remember and it’s fun to look back, things were simple. My brother and I would play a game we called “bounce or fly” until we were called in for the night.
We’d sometimes play this game so long, then start a new one. Collecting memories, collecting signs from the past. And my niece has just started with girlie fashion and she is always in the fashion of the current holiday. so Happy Halloween.
